auto-retrieve="false" and retrieving that

Hi,
I have a collection which has auto-retrieve="false". Now I need that 
information, how can I make it to retrieve it?

I tried using broker.getAllReferences (obj) but it didn't work.
or do I just have to use getCollectionByQuery?
