My problem, then, is where to go from here. I need the Object Transactions
provided by ODMG, but I *always* explictly lock objects for write i.e. I
never assume they are locked because the "parent" is locked. I know this
isn't how the ODMG is meant to be used, but there it is.
I need lazy loading. It seems like the OTM layer may well have provided what
I wanted, but it seems that this initiative has slowly trickled to a halt
(Or maybe it hasn't, but there doesn't seem to have been much CVS activity
on this).

Not at all true :)

The OTM is very complex and has required more analysis than we first thought to get it
right. We are trying to do something similar to Thomas' original design for the PB,
out at the object transaction level. We've made some design decisions, but we're not
quite at implemention yet. Once we commit something if people start to rely on it, it
will be difficult to change it.

I'll send out an update later on the OTM.

regards,
Matthew
