The OJB distributions have been build with gnu tar which can support long file names (>100 characters).
There have been problem reports for some archiving tools that don't support gnu tar features.
I assume that your problem is related to this issue. Please try to use different archiving tools to unpack the tarball.
On windows you can use WinZip, on Linux the default tar and also tools like ARK will work fine. (Don't know about Solaris...)
PS: Your email address indicates that you are working for SUN. Do you have contacts to the JDO team? This could be very interesting for us.
If you can help us to make a contact please contact me offline.
cheers,
Thomas

When I tar xvf jakarta-ojb-0.9.7-src.tar (after gunzipping the *.tgz), I get:tar: directory checksum error. Any ideas?
