I guess, in that case we have a limitation with the Oracle thin driver and
CLOBs/BLOBs.  Both Oralce 8i and Oracle 9i don't directly support
updating/inserting Blob or Clob data using the Thin driver (that is, the
pure Java driver) if the data is bigger then 4000 bytes.
