Hi Sam The LOV project sounds great You might want to check PoderVocabulary. This is a vocabulary that we created for Poderopedia: Who is who in business and politics. It is open source and it focusses on the connections between people, companies and institutions.
We use OWL (Web Ontology Language) as the basis of our work to define our vocabulary, because it provides us the semantic richness and extensibility we needed for our goals. We also based our work on two main vocabularies: Friend-of-a-friend (FOAF) to express information about people, organizations, etc. and BIO, an extension of FOAF focused on biographical information. Starting from those vocabularies, we extended them to incorporate what we called "Connections," that is, relations between people, companies, institutions and news, with some context -- we added many new classes and subclasses of connections. We hope it can be a small contribution to the open-source community PoderVocabulary In Github: https://github.com/poderopedia/PoderVocabulary Explanatory post http://www.pbs.org/idealab/2012/06/for-poderopedia-its-all-about-semantics159.html Enviado desde mi equipo BlackBerry® de Claro -----Original Message----- From: okfn-discuss-requ...@lists.okfn.org Sender: okfn-discuss-boun...@lists.okfn.org Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2012 12:00:14 To: <okfn-discuss@lists.okfn.org> Reply-To: okfn-discuss@lists.okfn.org Subject: okfn-discuss Digest, Vol 82, Issue 6 Send okfn-discuss mailing list submissions to okfn-discuss@lists.okfn.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.okfn.org/mailman/listinfo/okfn-discuss or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to okfn-discuss-requ...@lists.okfn.org You can reach the person managing the list at okfn-discuss-ow...@lists.okfn.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of okfn-discuss digest..." We are very pleased to welcome this fantastic project to the family. For those who don't know the the Linked Open Vocabularies Project can be summed up in 5 simple points: - LOV is about vocabularies (aka. metadata element sets or ontologies) in OWL / RDFS used to describe linked data. - LOV provides a single-stop access to the Vocabulary Commons ecosystem - LOV helps to improve vocabularies understanding, visibility, usability, synergy, sustainability and overall quality - LOV promotes a technically and socially sustainable management of the Vocabulary Commons ecosystem - LOV is a community and open project. You are welcome to join the team of gardeners of the Vocabulary Commons! Read more about it in Pierre-Yves Vandenbussche's post for the Open Knowledge Foundation blog<http://blog.okfn.org/2012/07/10/announcing-linked-open-vocabularies-lov-enabling-the-vocabulary-commons/>. Please do circulate this news to your friends and networks.
