Sam, I wrote a blog post for Open Access and started it with 5-6 reasons of what made an open project. Theo abstracted these for a multiauthor article. After I had written them I thought they might have more generality (for other Open projects) and would be happy to write blog post along these lines. It might, though it migh not, turn out to be something like TBL's 5 stars of open data. It would be a positive post.
