Hello Neville, I think these are two different technical issues.
#1 You mean the work http://openlibrary.org/works/OL1213423W/Exiles is linking to the author http://openlibrary.org/authors/OL122610A/Deeping_Warwick but the work is not shown on the author page? That's not a clean out, just a slow software or bug. Normally it takes only minutes, sometimes a few months before a link is working both ways. #2 The work page http://openlibrary.org/works/OL1213469W/...Malice_of_men has 2 editions, but "No matching records found". That might be a clean out (= the book with the LoC no. 38025512 have been deleted by error) or it's a serious bug.
