I'll dig into that more, but it definitely looks like it could
potentially provide what I want.

I'm hoping that I don't really "need" the information as long as the
redirects work properly, but it just makes me a little nervous to
depend on that fact. Additionally, for the semantic web type folks,
only the current single canonical ID is included in the RDF without
any owl:sameAs links to previous identifiers, preventing people who
use offline computations from establishing the equivalences.

The thing which triggered my question was the fact that Freebase,
despite having 10 OpenLibrary IDs for Tolstoy, doesn't have the
current canonical one, which was a surprise to me. If people are
trying to bridge from Freebase to OpenLibrary or OpenLibrary to
DBpedia via Freebase, there's no way to do it currently without
hitting the URL and taking note of the redirect (i.e. you can't do it
using static analysis from the dumps).

I don't have a customer depending on getting this fixed, but it would
seem like a good thing to improve from a holistic cleanliness point of
view.

Thanks again for the quick reply,

Tom
