That really sounds like a carby thats trying to run too richly, 
chances are that its adjusted ok if it was running well before, but 
you may want to check the float to see if it has developed a pinhole 
and is filling with fuel(makes it sink) and maybe the float valve 
sealing surfaces for dirt/damage or just coming loose. 
Usually in a fuel starving situation it will die off or cut out 
periodically and have a fall on its face flat out power loss at 
higher rpm's, regardless of throttle position.
