I'm running just the standard 3-speed tranny with column shift. I have a
spreadsheet that will give you the calculations on rpm's with different rear
ends, tire sizes etc. if you're interested.

Great advice so far. I really appreciate it. I had been considering
Patrick's 3:55 upgrade. I just wasn't sure if that would handle
freeway speeds. As I said, I still have yet to determing what trans I
have in there. Just got this truck and haven't had a chance to tear
into her yet. Ken, what tranny are you running? And yes, I agree with
you on the brakes. I'm planning a whole front end upgrade to include
discs.

I did. I changed the rear end gears to 3:55 and kept the closed
drive shaft for originality. I also put steel belted radials on the
original rims and it rides like a dream. I can do 65mph at about
2500 rpm. If you're going to get it to highway speeds make sure you
have good brakes!
