Hey Dennis

First of all, congratulations on the "new" truck.  I know you'll have hours of
fun with it!

I'll give you my 2 cents on tires.  I bought tires from Diamondback Classics.
They are size LT215/85R16 and have about a 2 3/4" vulcanized whitewall.  They
sit about 32" high mounted on the truck and are radial tires with a somewhat
narrow profile.  They have been a fantastic tire.  Very durable, attactive
and excellent riding/handling tire.  They're also pretty pricey, but I feel
like they will be on the truck for a very long time - it's not a daily driver.
I also converted my pumpkin gears to 3:55 which makes for a much easier highway
cruise at decent rpms.

Finally, I've uploaded a file in the files section of the group entitled "rpm
calculations".  It's a spreadsheet that you can plug in different tire sizes
and gear ratios and it calculates rpms at certain speeds.

Hi Guys,

On July 16 I bought a nice 1953 AD pickup in Pasco, WA. It has a 1954 car
235, 4-speed with "granny" low, a 1963 12-bolt 3.73 rear-end and a 12V
alternator.

I am really happy with this little truck but the 6-bolt tires and wheels
are not original and the distance from the center to the ground (1/2 the
effective diameter) is only 13 3/8". Can someone with original size wheels
and tires tell me the distance from wheel center to ground on theirs?

With my current setup it turns 2800 at 60. Am I wrong to want it to turn
about 2200 at 60?

Thanks,
Dennis
