Be sure there are fuses in there, even on a temporary wiring job. ...bill in corvallis ================================================== -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of K Ohlgren Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2010 12:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [old-chevy-truck] Ammeter to Starter Wire Harness
everything under your dash is pretty light load except the headlights and the amp gauge 16 or 18 ga wire will work for everything but those all the power to your truck runs thru the amp gauge even the headlights and generator/alt to charge your battery use a minimum of #10 wire for the amp gauge also for the feed to your headlight switch since it is a temp solution, i would bypass the amp gauge all together just run a wire from your voltage regulator to your headlight switch and fuse panel there used to be a good auto electrical site 'mad electric' http://www.madelectrical.com/ that recommended eliminating the amp gauge wiring to prevent fires under the dash if you burned up a couple of wires under dash, it was probably caused by the amp gauge wiring overheating Kurt 58 3100 Apache project ------------------------------------ Ole Chevy and GMC trucks rule!
