That was Christmas Day and I imagine the truck was happier as it was very close to getting scrapped when I bought it , it's now a good running , reliable daily driver work truck again ~ we're driving it to Nevada this weekend .
Yesterday I buttoned up the dashboard , it was mangled so I've been rebuilding it with factory gauges (no more idiot lights) from old Suburbans and trucks I find in Pick-A-Part ,I repaired the turn signals and installed an original Delco AM/FM stereo , no cassette as I don't want anyone breaking into it for the radio ... I installed a nice chrome bumper I scored for $25.00 ,after spending an hour hand polishing it . the clock keeps *perfect* time , the heater blows gangbusters , etc. ,etc. Dualtanks , super heavy duty @ 6,000 GVW . Just another typical old GMC work rig no one else wanted . I love it in spite of it's too long longbed . Of course it's an InLine 6 cylinder engine ~ a 292 C.I.D. thinwall truck engine , manual Muncie SM465 tranny... I have some spare gauges and dash parts etc. to give away as I no longer need the excess parts I collected ~ these parts suit from'73 ~ '87 , up to '91 in Suburbans . My free advice remains so and is now worth nearly 1/3 that much . -Nate Kent wrote: > > Nate: > > It's hard to tell who is smiling more-----you or the truck. > > Lookin good and thanks as always for all of your adivce. > > > Happy New Year to all!!! > > Kent S Butler > '56 Chev 3100 > Houston, TX > > > > ________________________________ > From: Nate <vwna...@...> > To: MetroGroup on YahooReplies <nashmetropoli...@yahoogroups.com>; Replies > 126DieselList <126die...@yahoogroups.com>; "diesel_merce...@yahoogroups.com" > <diesel_merce...@yahoogroups.com>; RepliesSoCalTT <soca...@yahoogroups.com>; > Vintage Ralley CartelReplies <vintagerallyecar...@yahoogroups.com>; Replies > Old-Chevy-Truck <old-chevy-truck@yahoogroups.com>; RepliesRoberts Trucklist > <old_chevroletgmctru...@yahoogroups.com>; VJLA YahooGroup REPLIES > <vjl...@yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Tue, December 28, 2010 8:44:53 AM > Subject: [old-chevy-truck] It's Rough > >  > > Living here in Sunny So.
