Why isn't it necessary to remove the vacuum line Nate?  Is it connected to 
"ported" vacuum?

That shouldn't be necessary on these old rigs .

A vacuum signal to the dizzy @ idle , will cause flat spots & off idle 
hesitation among other problems .

I seem to recall the ball bearing is a fairly mild advance , 7.5° BTDC IIRC .

The chevron or triangle is the TDC mark and can be used to set the full advance 
timing very accurately .
