No it doesn't have a tube coming out of the middle of it.  It looks like this
one:

Sounds like maybe you have the sending unit used for a '54 or '55.

Thanks Ken, does your unit have a metal tube coming out of the middle of  it?
Seems to me that I ended up with a "universal" type sending unit, with that
tube to no-where.

I bought a sending unit for my 1950 3100 here:  http://www.classicparts.com/

Had it installed for a couple of years with no problems.

Subject: [old-chevy-truck] Oh Oh!!!!  Gas Gauge Sending Unit Gas Leak

After two days of smelling gas fumes, in my 1952 3100 RED RYDER, and checking
all of the fuel lines and connections, I discovered that gas is seeping out of
the sending unit, on top of the tank, behind the seat.    Apparently, the leak
is at the base of a metal tube that comes up, out of the tank and is part of
the sending unit; however it is a sealed off tube that isn't connected to
anything.  Where is the best place to purchase a new gas gauge sending unit for
a 1952 3100.  I need to get this fixed because I am afraid to light up my Crack
Pipe with a cab full of gas fumes.  Thanks, Truckers!

Charlie,  driving that gassy RED RYDER
