Some time ago, someone on this list directed us to a really great, simple troubleshooting guide to determine whether the problem is the gauge or the sending unit. It helped me to quickly determine that I had a problem in my gauge. Both times I had a broken wire coming off of a coil in the gauge. To my amazement, I was able to repair (re solder) the broken lead. It was a fragile operation, but can be done. The shop manuals do a good job of explaining exactly how the gauges work.

The gas tank is full. If I take the ground wire off it moves to full.
