Given the age of your truck (1950), you could have a 6V fuel gauge. If
you've converted your truck to 12V, then you need to add a resistor where
the wire comes into the gauge. Chevs of the 40's part number is 1119004A
(Voltage Reducer). I'm sure there's others on the board that can chime in
on a less expensive source.
