Bearing inspection reveals no reason to disturb the factory main bearings at all.

Consequentially, the timing set was installed and the oil pan and rocker covers and water neck and oil filter adapter, and a layer of fine Gold Paint applied:

Fine looking motor there. Should be No Worries at all. Never took it down past short block. Low mileage factory original. Timing set replaced with steel toothed version. New seals all around of course, new freeze plugs. Re-seal sleeve on the damper, just in case. Man, that Diesel oil pan gasket is SWEET. Stiff and sturdy.
