Is it a requirement that the users get geocoded? There is no search in my area functionality, but this is easy to add.

I assumed that it was a requirement; but I didn't find a use-case that
needs a users' location. I'll leave it to Shanti to comment on this
since it involves parity across platforms.

Creating a new User does not result in the geocoder getting called, but
creating a new event does.

Creating a new user does not result in a call to the geocoder. This issue may
be a task that is work in progress. In any case, it's not documented, and hence
I'm filing this issue.
( Creating a new event, of course, appropriately involves the geocoder. )
