Might be a locale issue -- maybe something is "too" aware of different languages with different rules. Both variants work for me with LANG=C -- Luca is probably using it_IT.utf-8?

Try this: Copy the three lines of offending config entry in sddm.conf
and put them at the end of the file. Then comment them out in the
earlier location.
For me VB then works with commas delimiting the fields.
Smells of a race condition to me.
