I think I've narrowed this problem down to
x11-driver-video-intel-2.99.917-6.20151201.3. If I stay with
x11-driver-video-intel-2.99.917-6.20151201.2 everything works fine.
Was the 2.99.917-6.20151201.3 version made for Joel's bug # 1442? With
dri set to 2. Perhaps that's not so good for my hardware.
Right now my Plasma seems working OK. But I do get a lot, a huge lot, of
these 2 errors in journalctl:
kwin_x11[4707]: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence:
6034, resource id: 56623105, major code: 18 (ChangeProperty), minor code: 0
kwin_x11[4707]: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 9 (BadDrawable), sequence:
6783, resource id: 0, major code: 14 (GetGeometry), minor code: 0
Does this mean that even though Plasma seems to be working OK there is
still an underlying problem?

Ben i see thin in your logs:
Dec 19 10:05:49 ben-pc kwin_x11[7436]: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 9
(BadDrawable), sequence: 1611, resource id: 0, major code: 14 (GetGeometry),
minor code: 0
For me this is still an issue with mesa drivers, which they simply segfaults,
and Plasma isn't culprit here.
In my case i just can't start anything that uses OpenGL (yes sddm and Plasma
are using this by default by using Qt5Gui), neither in vbox or in real
hardware. All the time either nouveau driver or swrast(if i'm forcing software
renderer) crashes.
