Methinks this is a matter of taste to be honest I would make the full screen 
launcher the default. It's much easier to use and you don't have to suffer the 
disappearing menu if you don't get the mouse movement just right. It's odd 
though because previous "betas" were somehow less sensitive to this issue so I 
don't know what has changed.
The full screen launcher provides you with additional useful info like a recent 
file list..It's so much better in my view. I lnow I'm not the only one who uses 
the full screen launcher as the default.

I agree that it is helpful in bringing useful stuff to the attention of new 
users. As an example how is a new ex-windows user going to know that he can 
most probably run that favourite application that he missed in "wine"
The point I'm making is that it is not only useful for what it does in terms of 
installation but also for the information it imparts to the new user.
