That's roughly what I did when migrating a machine from SXCE to OI, I think I 
left some breadcrumbs on mailing lists and/or wiki to keep note of important 
files etc. that required attention ;)

Hopefully, with software as close as OmniOS and OI (especially if you use 
bleeding edges of both projects) there will be much less hassle with system 
files and services. On another hand, note that OmniOS repos (even the 
additional ones) ship much less userland software than OI, so you'd probably 
have to install pkgsrc and semi-manually upgrade it when new releases come out.

BTW, see if beadm create'ing an empty BE, pkg -R adding omnios publishers into 
it, and installing 'entire' would do some magic? Also, IIRC there are zfs.bz2 
images of OmniOS for caiman wnat are these? Pre-fabricated installations?
