Dan, This is was I was talking about; depending on the VM configuration, the ATA device, and the XDF device may show up inside the VM on Xen.
Without this patch: https://github.com/omniti-labs/illumos-omnios/commit/1b5a946e10cb0aefb70eb10f6a0fb7f6d8a91f42 I think only the ATA would have shown up in the example below.
