Should college wrestlers switch to MMA type outfits vs. singlets?

The only problem that I would have with shirtless, college wrestlers might be
cuts, sores, infections (such as herpes) and the transmittal of any microbes
due to skin contact.  50 years ago, they didn't think about such things.
Singlets in wrestling are modern phenomenon -- briefs or even nudity (in
ancient times) has always been the norm.

The discussion with the three guys of Flowrestling seemed to lack historical
perspective.  They never mentioned that many men wrestled in college bare
chested.  They seemed to advocate for it now, sort of following MMA, but they
never mentioned that uniforms went from shirtless wearing trunks and leggings
(mostly) with Iowa wearing trunks only, and Eastern schools wearing shirts that
snapped down at the crotch.

Then, in 64 or so, trunks and leggings went out and you had a one piece or two
piece with a pair of shorts.  Then the leggings went out in the late 70s,
though you can still wear them.  Oklahoma State sometimes wears them along with
the onesie.  I remember my high school wearing leggings or tights in the late
70s and sometimes they still do.

I think the little one, the one who always looks unkempt, made the mention that
young men would feel inhibited showing so much of their body in public.  That
does not seem well taken in that athletes generally are quite aware of their
bodies and in a sport like wrestling there is so much contact that I think such
inhibited feelings would not be so common.  In any event, those wrestlers that
would feel that way would drop out, and would probably not be as proficient.
