Okay, never let it be said I left anyone wanting information. There is a competitve hula hoop organization which holds competition and benefits world wide. During the 70', 80's, and early 90's the reigning champ was an American named Mat Plendl. He gained national prominence at 13 when he went on the Dinah Shore show in the mid 70's, then a decade later appeared three time in six months on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He toured and did benefits for years, and also worked as a star performer in theatres in San Francisco. These are some vids I found of him, but most of the youtube vids on hula hooping feature either children or female gymnasts. Enjoy!
