OGB election season is approaching again, so it's time to begin our annual review of Contributor & Core Contributor grants for the ON community. (We can grant either status at any time; the election just serves as an annual reminder to go back and look at the past year's worth of work.) As a reminder, in the current system, anyone who contributes in either code or other activities is named a Contributor, which doesn't expire. Those who are deemed by the community to have contributed most, and who agree to it, can be named Core Contributors. Core Contributor status expires after two years, but can be renewed if the contribution level is still present. Go to http://poll.opensolaris.org/ and click on the Grants tab to see who has what grants and when the database thinks each grant expires. When formal votes are taken, either of the ON community or of the OpenSolaris community as a whole (such as votes to name Contributors/Core Contribs, or the annual OGB elections), only Core Contributors get to cast ballots. (If this sounds overcomplicated, then you're in agreement with the OGB, where we are working on a proposed overhaul to the OpenSolaris Constitution to simplify this, as well as splitting voting rights in a community group. See ogb-discuss mail & the OGB Agendas/Minutes for more details there.) I have three sets of core contributor nominations: renewal of 43 grants that are about to expire, upgrades of 75 existing contributors, and 9 new grants. Given that large number, I'm only focusing on core contributors and not on contributors. For the first group, the list of 48 grants that will expire soon is below. The 5 with a "*" at the end are not included in this nomination, since AFAIK each has left Sun and is no longer involved in [Open]Solaris; the 43 without a "*" are included in this nomination. ahl Adam H.
