I'm getting errors on installation. These may or may not be errors to ignore. I've tried about an hour of searching, detective work, and dinking around with the thing and I'm now thoroughly confused.
When I boot the thing from the install CD, I get a long series of warnings about ide things not being found, atapi things not being started, and so on. I can reproduce these but only with some effort as I have to write them down, then switch to another machine and type them in. However, it eventually reaches a point where I can login as root and start installation. At this point, things seem to work normally, as I can see devices, list directories, and detect the IDE-adapter compact flash I'm intending to install on. When I do "install.sh", I get back the install warnings down to "proceed with installation?" At that point the response is the error message: ERROR: GRUB stage1 or stage2 not found I messed with looking through directories and did indeed not find anything that I could decide was "stage1" or "stage2". I got a little lost in messing with GRUB instructions on line. That's problem 1. I reasoned that perhaps there was something funny with the compact flash drive and perhaps it was not available for use, from the long list of warnings, and decided to format it. The format command let me select it, and then asked for the drive type, with only "other" as a choice. I chose "other". 8-) The next question was number of cylinders. Huh? I know CF cards have logical cylinders, but have not yet located the head/cylinder info for a Transcend 2GB compact flash card. I'm not even sure I need to. But maybe...?... I might have run straight into this if the install/format had succeeded. The CF was previously formatted NTFS on another machine. As background, the motherboard is reported to work for Opensolaris on the HCL, and all the compatibility stuff mentioned for EON seems to work fine, with the exceptions in the warnings and no GRUB I mention. Can someone please point me to where I can go educate myself on this? Many thanks! -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ distribution-discuss mailing list http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/distribution-discuss
