Description
This bug was originally filed in the defect.opensolaris.org bugzilla as bug
#15263 (http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=15263)
The original description, from Rainer Orth <<email address omitted>> was:
I don't know if you can file IPS related bugs via
bugs.opensolaris.org yet, so I'm trying here instead:
In snv_127, running a minimized build, root_archive initially
failed:
# root_archive unpack boot_archive.corrupt /var/tmp/corrupt
/usr/sbin/root_archive[640]: gzcat: not found [No such file or directory]
unknown_fstyp (no matches)
invalid root archive
Even in snv_134, system/kernel still lacks the necessary
dependency on compress/gzip.
This also appears to still be the case with current ON bits. Note that
root_archive is actually delivered by SUNWcs (system/kernel only delivers the
/boot/solaris/bin/root_archive symlink)
Frequency
Always
Regression
no
Steps to Reproduce
See description
Expected Result
Installation of SUNWcs installs compress/gzip, as needed by root_archive.
Actual Result
See description.

=== *Public Comments* ========================================================
It would be better to record a dependency in the manifest from
/usr/sbin/root_archive to gzcat and
let the packaging dependency resolution phase handle the lookup. That way when
things get re-factored,
we've recorded the actual dependency so the package names get looked up
correctly.
