Luman Wang, I agree with you that our use cases should be practical use cases in that what they deliver is very relevant to service providers. I believe the way the use case is currently defined, including the possibility for IPv6 addresses for the tunnels (already added in the wiki), is in fact very much relevant to service providers. It does not do everything, but what it does do – residential broadband service – it does well . Real deployments will involve a lot more integration with the SP’s processes and systems, and may also use other VNF’s and not necessarily the ones used in the use case. In particular the VPP based functions will definitely have to be revisited in a real life deployment.
I think an enterprise service is also a very good service, and ONAP should address this as another use case. Some elements of the service are similar to the residential service, but many will be different. We can do anything, but we cannot do everything. This is true in general, and especially when running against a very tight schedule such as our R1 schedule. I therefore second your proposal to consider this service for a later release. We completely understand the community’s intention to simplify the use cases for ONAP R1. Meanwhile for the purpose of prosperity of community, I believe that some practical use cases those can be smoothly deployed in operator’s network in the near future will be very attractive and convincing. POC is one way to show that ONAP can run by itself, but more realistic trial or experience will be persuasively indicating ONAP has the ability of running in real world. As our knowledge the most important reason why ECOMP being attractive for the whole industry is that AT&T has deployed the platform on it’s real AIC network for more than two years. That is the motion we propose to add some real-network requirements in the use cases. In fact, we do have the plan to deploy vCPE use case in our network in the near future. If these features cannot be involved in R1 release, we would suggest to introduce those features in later version, also we have some plan to make trials in our ONAP-lab to test how can ONAP implement these requirements. I hope you realize that the purpose of the use cases is to simply test the platform capabilities and not to provide any serious ready-made deployable service. It would be beneficial to have a simple use case that can run on a virtual cloud environment as a milestone for R1. We already have the VoLTE use case that employ physical network functions. Please document your use case and have the use case subcommittee review. But the current Residential Broadband vCPE use case only include residential case and it is a completely virtual one. Here, we have two suggestions as below. 1. In actual scenario, we would also like to deploy enterpise-base vCPE to provide the Enterprise2DC service to the tenants conveniently and quickly. We have a large number of companies who have strong requirements on this vCPE scenario. So we suggest that community will take enterprise vCPE scenario into consideration. 2. We also suggest to include actual physical network devices into vCPE use case.We will implement the service this year, and we hope ONAP will provide an prototype for it.
