Moderate northerly winds, shifting northwest at times. Raptor Observations: The bulk of the flight was some groups of Broad-winged Hawks at scope distance inland, especially during a brief period in the midday. Otherwise a slow trickle of migrants, some overhead. Broad-winged Hawks were most numerous with over 400. Small groups of Turkey Vultures for 64 total. Small numbers of other expected migrants including 9 sharpies and 8 red-tails. One distant Golden Eagle in the first hour. High 51F. Winds ESE at 10-15mph. A less favorable wind than a true SE, and more of a head wind so it tends to keep raptors low, but lessen the migration volume. Perhaps a flight for the morning with less favorable conditions for the afternoon as rain moves in. The flight will depend on how gloomy it is, but I would expect the powered fliers to be on the move (Accips, falcons, harriers), and if conditions are good enough perhaps broad-wings too. We are in peak time so unexpected big flights can happen if conditions improve. SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. High 57F. Winds NNW at 5-10mph. Winds are weak enough that we could end up with a good South Lookout flight. MONDAY: Mostly sunny. High around 65F. Winds starting a light SE shifting NW at 5-10mph. Could be another decent South Lookout flight, though blue skies may make spotting difficult. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown ([email protected] ) Derby Hill Bird Observatory information may be found at: http://onondagaaudubon.com/derby-hill-bird-observatory/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=358 Count data submitted via Trektellen.org - Project info at: https://trektellen.org/count/view/3860/20260424 -- Oneidabirds-L List Info: Visit: http://LISTS.cornell.edu for more information Posting Address: [email protected] Sightings: Please submit your observations to eBird at http://www.ebird.org. --
