Strong SSE winds. Temperatures reaching the upper 60s. Raptor Observations: A big flight that consisted mainly of low Sharp-shinned Hawks and Broad-winged Hawks. The strong southeasterly winds kept the volume down a bit but gave great looks all day. Sharp-shinned Hawks were on the move the entire time we were out with a season high 429. Broad-winged Hawks had an impressive total of over 1,600 considering that they were mostly coming through one by one rather than kettling. Other notable totals included 195 Turkey Vultures, 49 Bald Eagles, and a season high 29 Ospreys. High 58F. Winds SSE at 5-10mph. A favorable wind, though fairly weak. Braddock Bay had a big afternoon Broad-winged Hawk flight today and it is likely we could get those birds tomorrow if the rain doesn't move in too quickly. Not a certain forecast because of the uncertainty of the rain, but another big flight is likely if conditions are good enough for broad-wings to be flying. THURSDAY: Morning showers then cloudy. High 48F. Winds W at 10-20mph. Probably South Lookout. Probably a moderate flight. FRIDAY: Mix of sun and clouds. High 48F. Winds W at 10-15mph. Similar. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown ([email protected] ) Derby Hill Bird Observatory information may be found at: http://onondagaaudubon.com/derby-hill-bird-observatory/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=358 Count data submitted via Trektellen.org - Project info at: https://trektellen.org/count/view/3860/20260428 -- Oneidabirds-L List Info: Visit: http://LISTS.cornell.edu for more information Posting Address: [email protected] Sightings: Please submit your observations to eBird at http://www.ebird.org. --
