Dear Janie, it seems you are installing a very old, insecure and outdated version of OpenOffice. The most recent version, 3.4.1, can be downloaded from the official site http://www.openoffice.org/ (the download will be served through SourceForge) and it does not include the registration option you are mentioning. I recommend that you try installing this latest version from the official site before you report installation problems.
