Yes, the changes were made in the master sources. For GigaBASE all
changes are incorporated into main sources.

That's strange, since the author uses gcc/g++ for development. gcc/g++
2.95.x.

for the "linear test" gigabase is 30 times (!) faster than db for insert
operations,
and 5-10 times faster for search operations.

in real life, when used with oops, these benefits are smaller -- 3-5
times. but gigabase allows to use several disks to store indexes
(including raw devices), and this dramatically reduces the disk loads
compared to the DB.

i consider in this case really big caches with index of several
gigabytes size. the size of the index makes it impossible to store it
only in the RAM.
