The whole reason those files are generated using xalan is because the
original code received from IBM actually used a rexx script to generate the
error message files. So you needed a working rexx interpreter in order to
build oorexx, which made it a bit tricky porting the code to a new
platform. It also complicated the build, because those files are generally
created as the first step of the build when it is necessary to do so, which
resulted in rxapi.exe getting launched. Things worked much more smoothly
once the rexx dependency was removed from the build process. If the lack of
a cross platform solution to this bothers anybody, then they are invited to
put the time in to fix that.
