Hi Bertram ...
I only downloaded ooRexx on my machine yesterday. I don't know why these
packages don't create desktop icons so you know what to create a short cut
pointing to ???
I already had ObjREXX & Workbench on my win 7 machine, but it did work perfect
when I did excel demos at Well Fargo in 2010.
After installing OORexx, ObjRexx started getting upset about conflicts with
rxapi.exe. I scoured the internet looking for fixes, but they give you a
simple
work around by running regedit and possibly corrupting you entire system. Or
there is this simple download from someone you never heard of.
I am not likely your best bet for assistance.
So here is what the online help says:
Start up regedit by typing "regedit" in the run textbox" ... When the regedit
window appears, shut off your monitor or cover your laptop.
Close your eyes and arrow down 5 times" ... Press "delete" ... down 5 times ...
etc. ... after doing this 500 times, reboot ...got it ?
I'm going to go for a cup of coffee ... I'll be offline for the next year ...
see you next Christmas.
I have an objective and I don't want to debug any packages. I can get OOrexx
and OBJRexx running, but it takes OBJRexx forever load. When it finally does,
seems functional. I will need to do an Excel automation program to be sure.
It's 6:00 am where I am..looks like you are up too late or way too early ...
had any coffee yet.
If you want to develop a dialog, I'm ready to converse ( conversate ? UGH !!!
) with you, either by phone or by email. I think we should log/document
anything thing we do so that we may be sharing our pain. Somehow, sharing pain
makes it easier. Kinda like joining a gang in prison.
Do youhave KEdit ... got the install ...just like Xedit and fully programmable
in "KEXX" but I havn't seen a real difference ... in many cases it's more
robust than MVS & VM Rexx.
Think about it ... Rob
We'll exchange numbers later ... I don't know how many eyes are seeing this.
When I open up ooRexx it brings up a crude "version" of what appears to be a
very weak version of Workbench.
I had it such that it would bring up a DOS (?) window and I could type in rexx
code separate by ";" .. and it worked well. The crude IDE is better though.
I have no idea how I got this working, but the icon properties are "C:\Program
Files\ooRexx\ooRexxTry.rex".

Subject: [Oorexx-users] Problem installing ooRexx 4.1.2 and 4.1.3 Windows
x76_64 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Hello,
I've been using Rexx since it came out on VM/SP in the 1980's and have used it
on VM, OS/2, and now Windows 7. I decided to upgrade to 4.1.3.9343 from 4.1.2,
when I noticed a problem with using REXXTRY. These two problems occurs /
occurred on three (3) Windows 7 Ultimate x64 systems. When I started REXXTRY
in a command prompt window, it:
1) Opened a second window with Rexxtry running in it
2) The window closed after 30 seconds or so
3) The original window (where I issued Rexxtry) hung (never returned from
starting rexxtry) and even with task manager and process explorer I was unable
to kill the process. Logging out and back on was the only way to end the
command prompt window.
I uninstalled 4.1.2 by:
1) Stopping the RXAPI service and setting it to manual
2) I tried using the uninstall via the Control Panel, but while reading the
instructions it terminated it without any messages.
3) I manually started the uninstall.exe program and this time it did NOT
terminate itself, while I was reading the instructions.
4) After the uninstall program complete, I rebooted going into Safe mode and
manually deleting the C:\Program Files\ooRexx directory structure.
5) After rebooting again, I started the installation of 4.1.3 using the
ooRexx-4.1.3.windows.x86_64.exe program.
That was around 93 minutes ago and the installation program is still in the
process of install ooRexx. It is "hung" / "frozen" on the line "Installing
rxapi as a Windows Service."
NOTE: I have been able to reproduce this problem on three computers (all
running Windows 7 Ultimate x64). They all hang during the installation at the
same place. the problem also appeared around the same time on all three
systems (why I'm thinking it might be MS, as they send down updates on a
regular basis and is the only new thing common to all three systems). ****** I
first noticed the problem about 2 weeks ago. ********
NOTE: I also tried going back to 4.1.2 and it also hung during the
installation.
NOTE and QUESTION: I am at the most recent Windows 7 Ultimate x64 update level
by Microsoft. I'm wondering if a recent change by MS affected ooRexx for
Windows?
At this point I no longer am able to run any Rexx or ooRexx program on any of
my Windows 7 systems. As I use Rexx for everything, I need to get it working
again. Yet, I'm at my wits end and would greatly appreciate positive help.
Such as:
1) Is anyone else seeing either of these two issues (the rexxtry issue and the
install hung at installing the RxAPI service) on Windows 7 Ultimate x64?
2) Can anyone try installing 4.1.3.9343 (please) on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with
the latest updates?
3) Can anyone suggest how to proceed (maybe even manually install ooRexx) on
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with the latest updates?
4) Whatever one can think of outside the box.
I really am not thrilled with reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate x64 from scratch
on these three systems; especially when I'm not sure new install wouldn't die
given it might be a MS update related issue.
Thank you for your input,
Bert Moshier
