Thanks-- I realised that I was only on 1.2.0 due to using homebrew and having installed HEAD version in the past, which (appears to have meant) that it wasn't getting auto-updated with `brew update && brew upgrade`. I forced the update to 1.2.1 with `brew reinstall opam` and it's all fine now.
