Sounds ok for me. Thoug (3) makes only sense if the chip is in
a package that can be soldered by hand. Ie not BGA and the like
with pins/balls below the package, but SO and the like that have
the pins to the outside.
And no, i don't mind using a binocular to solder stuff :)
