I once submitted a paper to a space conference (in 2002, I think), and never received any contact from them. About 2 months prior to the conference, I emailed to ask about it, and was told that 'if I hadn't received a response, then my paper had not been accepted'. So, I dropped it and attended -- only to find my name on the speaker's schedule, with no talk prepared! So I missed day 1 of the conference, preparing my talk at the last minute. Sometimes it's just because they are very, very poorly organized. I have a feeling this 1-day Ohio Linuxfest may be a similarly small-scale operation.
