Bah.  Delta is telling me that they don't accept computers as checked
baggage.  Of course, it's also too big to be a carry-on.  I'm thinking
I'm going to have to FedEx it to the hotel.

That's your best bet.  If the thing takes enough shock to bust up the
case, through corrugated cardboard and bubbble wrap, the components
inside aren't going to fare much better no matter what you do to them.
