This isn't going to work for video for what we have sketched out, although it does sound interesting and might be useful for transmission of other information.

The reason that is isn't going to work for our proposed box is that we plan on having the box do the decoding so we are going to b transmitting compressed video already and you can't compress a compressed signal. Sometimes it actually makes the data larger. That is, we don't plan to put the decoder in the central computer. The major reason that I see for this is that doing it this way might make it possible to get a license for DRM since the box would be encrypted in and encrypted out for DRM protected video.
