Sigma Designs chips are said to have problems with anything other than plain play mode. We need rewind, fast forward, freeze frame, slow motion, etc. I don't know if this applies to the SMP8630 or only to other Sigma chips. Perhaps there is some way to get them to work properly. > I'm not sure if a single chip solution would be best. My concern with hardware solutions is whether or not we can add tweaks to work around problems like when tv stations put data in the top couple of scan lines, assuming it will be hidden by overscan. (There are other similar problems, that's just one example.) If these chips are true hardware decoders we may be out of luck. If they are a DSP or similar with firmware, we may be able to add tweaks. There were some other hardware decoder chips posted to the Ethervideo list, has anyone found real data sheets (not just marketing blurbs) for any of them? _______________________________________________ Open-hardware mailing list [email protected] http://lists.duskglow.com/mailman/listinfo/open-hardware
