Bryan, I also have the same results using the expert search that you had. For this title, I am going to find all the duplicate titles and merge onto a serial record (which is not currently in PINES). I will let you know when I am done and which record to use. After I do so, I will open a helpdesk ticket since the expert searching should be functioning with the latest release.
The records pulled up using Lonely Planet as a keyword search are those with Lonely Planet in fields other than the 260. Finding serial records in PINES without an ISSN is problematic. If the expert search doesn't pull up the title, you can do an advanced title search and sort by publication date. Or, you can find the record in OCLC and then search by TCN. Given that legacy records may not have an OCLC based TCN, that may not locate an existing record. The large number of duplicates from incorrectly cataloged serial records contributes to the problems with locating the correct title. Many of us do merge duplicates and overlay current OCLC records when we have the time. For travel books, the problems of duplicates are heightened since there is a debate on whether to use serial records for them or not. We (PINES catalogers) requested an option to limit to serial records as well as to the item types on the list. I don't know where the request is in the development process. Elaine J. Is there a known problem with the MARC Expert Search? It seems like it would be a very useful feature, but most of the times I've tried using it, I've received no hits, even when I know there are records that should match. 5. Is there a way to sort search results for secondary searches (those done using the box at the top of the results), without having to go back to the main search page? 6. When viewing the full MARC View for a record, it might be nice to be able to go back to the listing of results without having to choose OPAC view and then clicking the Go Back button (so, if there were a Go Back button on the MARC View display). 7.
