Jane, My first thought on this org unit setting was that it defined an interval for a client alert when a patron has a hold that is soon to expire. Maybe similar to the *circ.patron_expires_soon_warning* ou setting, which sets an interval to show a warning at checkout when a patron account is soon to expire.
But I can't see that the *circ.hold_expire_alert_interval* ou setting is actually used anywhere. Maybe someone with better eyes than mine can shed some light? -Michele -- Michele M.
