I believe that OpenJPA will allow float pk fields, it's just that there's no built-in id class for them (see util.LongId, ShortId, etc). So you'd have to either add a built-in id class and alter OpenJPA's internal code to use it appropriately, or create your own id class and use it via the @IdClass annotation, as you would for a compound pk.
