Please let me know if you have any good resource for this position:
*Mainframe DBA – C,COBOL*
*Location; Bedford, MA.*
- There are 2 custom databases written in C, COBOL, Assembler, PLI.
Associate is expected to maintain these 2 databases.
- Associate should have good knowledge on C, COBOL and DBMS Concepts
and is expected to play DBA role for these databases at onsite
- There will be 2 offshore team who will handle any code related to
Assembler,PLI and COBOL. Onsite associate is expected to coordinate with
the offshore team for any activity.
- Below are some of the key activities required to be performed
(1) Rebuilding a index (aka Directory) file,
(2) adding extents to a flat file,
(3) adding minidisks to the USER userid that owns all the disks,
(4) purging a cusip on request (including checking that the request makes
sense),
(5) preparing for Year End reorgs by changing code and preparing logical
extents to rebuild into as well as "flip" execs to swap over to the new set
of disks,
(6) DBA needs to undstand how to look at directory file records such as
XCUSDIR and understand how to decipher the meaning of index file or PRICE
file pointers, such as the 6-6-20 scheme still used for Indices where the
32 bit pointer field actually contains 3 fields that give start pricing
year, number of years allocated (currently through 2015 for active
indices), and pointer to start record offset within the INDEX logical file.
(7) Interpreting LAYOUTS H file that describes the record layouts for
different types of records. Looking at specific DTABLE and DITEM commands
and relating these to the file contains those tables and items.
(8) Rebuilding pricing history extents (using the "4B" record type in APAM
which is a B-tree file system , where the entire record functions as the
key, or any substring starting from the first character). For several of
these we do weekly rebuilds to keep retrievals efficient so that there are
a minimum number of split blocks with resulting chaining.
(9) Handling any errors reported by the load machines due to improper
packages, sometimes manually sent by developers with authorization to
correct keys or reload data history for specific securities.
