Hello all, I've been hitting my head against a wall with Transarc AFS on alpha_dux40. As you all probably know, Tru64 is a non-supported platform since Jun 30, 2003, so contacting them is no use even though we have an AFS support contract until Feb 2005. Yes, we're trying to wrestle IBM's arm to get us what we think we paid for, but that's another story and probably not interesting to this list.
Since my efforts with Transarc AFS are going nowhere, I figured I'd give OpenAFS a spin on this machine. It's a Professional Workstation XP1000, with Tru64 UNIX 4.0F on it. I've now built a kernel where the AFS module is OpenAFS 1.2.10 and I've replaced the Transarc 3.6 2.45 afsd with the one from OpenAFS 1.2.10. uname -a = OSF1 trp V4.0 1229 alpha sizer -v = Digital UNIX V4.0F (Rev. 1229); Mon Jan 5 09:15:32 EET 2004 When running one particular application program, all the afsd processes go into the WAIT state. With Transarc AFS, the machine stayed otherwise functional but all attempts to access files on AFS caused the processes doing so to hang indefinitely. After the transition to OpenAFS, it seems even worse. The machine still responds to ping and the NFS filesystem it serves is still accessible from the clients, but where it previously was possible to continue using existing shells and opening new ones via SSH, now the existing shells hang (for very long times, responding only occasionally), and while they are hung, new SSH sessions can't be opened at all. The same program never caused any problems on our other Alpha, which is a Personal Workstation 500au with the same 4.0F OS version. The application in question is XDS (http://www.mpimf-heidelberg.mpg.de/~kabsch/xds/). It causes no problems on x86 Linux or SGI, and we haven't seen this kind of AFS problem with the XP1000 in any other circumstances than those involving the running of this program. We would be very grateful for any insight the OpenAFS developers may be able to give on this matter. -- Atro Tossavainen (Mr.) / The Institute of Biotechnology at Systems Analyst, Techno-Amish & / the University of Helsinki, Finland, +358-9-19158939 UNIX Dinosaur / employs me, but my opinions are my own. < URL : http : / / www . helsinki . fi / %7E atossava / > NO FILE ATTACHMENTS _______________________________________________ OpenAFS-devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.openafs.org/mailman/listinfo/openafs-devel
