Ok. I didn't see it the first time, or the second, and I just removed a plugin which was interfering with the page rendering :-\

Based on other comments, I'm thinking the right thing to do is also pass
the version into the kernel module as well, so that both versions get
passed on to the kernel log. (or is there a standard way to syslog in afsd
that works on all platforms?)

probably "call syslog()"?
