Hi. My understanding from talking with people in #openafs on IRC is that the mac prefs pane is "obsolete and broken in many ways". This certainly jives with my own experience.
I would argue we shouldn't be shipping known broken software that will negatively impact the user experience. So, I'd like to propose removing the Prefs Pane gui from future packages/builds of OS X.
