if you create the mapping using either the AFS Client Control Panel or the AFS SysTray tool, you provide three parameters:

 * AFS path using backslashes instead of forward slashes
 * Windows Drive letter
 * OpenAFS Client Submount name (SMB Share name: \\AFS\submount)

This results in two operations being performed:

 * An OpenAFS Client Submount is created and is assigned the value
   specified by the AFS path.
 * A Windows Network Drive mapping is created between the drive letter
   and the SMB share name

Ok, assume that I don't know the first thing about AFS and I want to map a drive.

The drive letter I want is J: and I want it to be mapped to /afs/afs-2.csc.depauw.edu/home/cowboy on neptune.csc.depauw.edu that serves the cell afs-2.csc.depauw.edu

How do I do that ?

thanks,

Ron

It should say

        \\afs\home

you are creating a mapping between a drive letter and an SMB Share Name
called "home" which is referred to in the docs as a "submount" by AFS.

Hello all,

I am still struggling with the windows client.

When I create a drive mapping in the AFS windows client (1.3.7400) this way :
Drive Letter: Drive K:
AFS Path: \afs\afs-2.csc.depauw.edu\home
submount: home

and then look in a dos window with "net use" what that resulted in I see :
C:\>net use
New connections will be remembered.

The command completed successfully.

But in the "remote" column it should say \\afs\afs-2.csc.depauw.edu\home or
not ?

thanks,
